Asia and Pacific Participatory Epidemiology Network (APPEN)
Veterinary Public Health Center Asia and Pacific (VPHCAP), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FCM), Chiang Mai University (CMU)
APPEN is a network of people interested in participatory epidemiology open to individuals, practitioners, trainers and their organizations from the Asian and Pacific Region. The Network is formed under the VPHCAP umbrella, which hosts the APPEN secretariat and coordination and is part of the global Participatory Epidemiology Network for Animal and Public Health (PENAPH). Those from the region who have been trained in PE at CMU or other PENAPH-recognized training course are especially invited to join. They may join as individuals or as representatives of their home organizations. Also, key faculty from CMU’s faculties of Medicine, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Social Sciences and Economics and representatives of government offices from the Departments of Livestock Development and Public Health will be invited to join.
The purpose of APPEN is to facilitate capacity building on participatory epidemiology and support research and surveillance activities that incorporate PE. The inaugural meeting of APPEN was held in December in Chiang Mai. The dates of the inception meeting were coordinated with the dates of the PENAPH Technical Workshop that took place on December 11 to 13, 2012.
